Pre Prep Program
3 years to 5 years
The staff ratios in this room are 3 staff members and 24 children. The Pre-Prep/Preschool room has a qualified Early Childhood Teacher. The emphasis of the preschool room is on encouraging children to play a larger part in the planning process while developing skills that will be used at BIG school.
In the Pre-Prep/Preschool room staff closely monitor the children’s ever changing interests and then base learning around these experiences to ensure that the learning has intrinsic meaning and value to the children.
Opportunities are offered in the preschool room for children to learn through:
- Music, Singing and Dancing
- Drama and Role Play
- Construction
- Language
- Creative Arts
- Manipulative Play
- Computers
- Puzzles
- Physical play
Under the funding guidelines from the QLD Government the centre needs to offer a 15 hour a week program over 40 weeks. The preschool room program runs from 9:00-12.00pm everyday. Whenever the program will not be offered by a qualified teacher for eg, holiday periods the parents will be notified in writing. A roster is available in the foyer for parents.
Daily Room Routine
6:45 - 7:50 Open routine. Inside Preschool room. All ages combined. At 7:30 babies go to nursery.
7:50 - 8:00 Packing up room. Sunscreen to be applied.
Preschool begins
8:00 - 9:00 Outdoor play , combined with Kindy.
9:00 - 9:30 Lining up, washing hands, morning tea
9:30 - 9:45 Group time; roll, story, songs, transition
9:45 - 10:40 Inside play; art, construction, writing, free choice, dancing, etc
10:40 10 minute pack away warning
10:50 - 11:00 Pack away time
Lunch time
11:00 - 11:20 Mid morning group time
11:20 - 11:30 Make own beds, wash hands, sitting at table for lunch
11:30 - 12:00 Lunch time
12:00 - 2:00 Pack away bowls, toilet, rest time
2:00 - 2:30 Pack beds and sheets away, shoes on, wash hands, sit at table
Afternoon
2:30 - 2:45 Afternoon tea
2:45 - 3:00 Sunscreen, story
3:00 - 4:30 Outdoor play, combined with Kindy
4:30 - 6:30 Closing routine.
6:00 - 6:00 all ages combined
